Tajikistan

A land of soaring mountains, ancient Silk Road heritage and extraordinary journeys through the heart of Central Asia

About Tajikistan

Tajikistan is one of the most mountainous countries in Central Asia. More than 90% of the country is covered by mountains, with elevations ranging from a few hundred metres to over 7,000 metres. It is home to the Fann Mountains and the Pamirs, as well as high-altitude lakes, glaciers and some of the most spectacular road routes in the region.

For centuries, important Silk Road routes passed through what is now Tajikistan. Today, traces of this history can be found across the country, from Sarazm, an ancient settlement dating back more than 5,000 years, to fortresses, archaeological sites and historic towns shaped by centuries of trade and cultural exchange.

Travelling through Tajikistan can mean trekking between the lakes of the Fann Mountains, driving the Pamir Highway, visiting ancient sites or spending time in small mountain villages. Many journeys combine several of these experiences.

Tajikistan is still relatively untouched by mass tourism. For travellers, this means fewer crowds, remote landscapes and the opportunity to experience a part of Central Asia that still feels genuinely undiscovered.
